21st Century Teacher Librarian
Who am I? |
What do I teach? |
I am an educator who has been teaching within the Peel District School Board for over 20 years. I started my career as a Physical and Health Education Teacher and a Family Studies Teacher until eight years ago, when I transitioned into the role of the Teacher Librarian. I am a lifelong learner who is passionate about teaching and the success of my students.
Why am I a 21st Century Teacher Librarian?I believe that the Library Learning Commons should be the educational hub of the school. It is a place where teachers, students, administrators and the community can come and work both collaboratively and as individuals. It is a place that breaks down barriers and provides equitable access to learning. I believe that students should tinker, experiment and play in our MakerSpace. It is a place that is never really closed as our students have access to books and other resources 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year.

I am a proud Teacher Librarian. In addition to teaching students about referencing, research and citations, I also teach a variety of 21st century skills that our students will need to be successful in today's competitive environment. I teach students to be creative, to experiment and to try new things. I encourage them to think outside of the box and that there are no limits, other than the ones that they place on themselves.
Where do I teach?I am fortunate to be among a great staff at Louise Arbour Secondary School. We aim to help all of our students "Soar to Success". This school is located at the corner of Father Tobin and Bramalea Road in a very culturally diverse part of Brampton. Our students come from wide range of socioeconomic, religious, racial and educational backgrounds. That is why culturally responsive teaching practices are so important at our school.

"The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character- that is the goal of true education." - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
